Teck Guan Hoko Village

Teck Guan Hoko Village is situated on Quoin Hill in Tawau and is blessed with rich fertile volcanic soil. Amidst the beautiful surroundings, there are many geographical wonders, including a 75m waterfall along the Balung river that flows through it and cylindrical basal racks formation that are 27000 years old. With such a wonderful surrounding, one can definitely have a marvellous experience in it. The village is a 45-minute car ride from the city centre.

A tour of the village will first bring you to explore the waterfall area through rainforests and swim in the cool waters below the waterfall. When you approach the end of the trail, you will see rock formations that are formed tens of thousands of years ago. After your tour to the waterfall, you will be led to the Hoko House, where one can tour the organic fruits garden and also a flower garden. There is also a tree house where one can climb up and enjoy the fresh air. If you are lucky, you may be able to spot hornbills flying in flocks. You can also enjoy a delicious meal and creative Hoko Delights, such as Hoko Banana Rolls, Hoko Jelly and Hoko Prawn Rolls. Fruits from the organic fruit garden is also available. A Hoko Tarik performance will also be performed by the staff.

Teck Guan Hoko Museum

Teck Guan Hoko Museum is on of the few museums in the world that displays chocolates and cacao as their main display. The musuem has collections about the process that a cacao bean has to go through, from selection, planting, harvesting, fermenting and the final product. Visitors are being presented an array of banners and pictures for them to further visualise the process and a video will also be shown to  visitors. After the visit, visitors will be treated with hand-made chocolates and also a variety of sweet treats made from chocolate.

The Hoko Museum is located in Tanjung Batu and the drive from town centre takes approximately 15 minutes. The tour starts with a 15 minute video about the development of cacao in Tawau, followed by a guided tour of the factory. The tour ends with a taste of sweet and savoury treats such as Hoko Rice Dumplings Balls, Hoko Popcorn, Hoko Spring Rolls, hand-made chocolate and Hoko drinks. Souvenirs may also be bought at the souvenir counter.
